It’s really important that we know what you think – whether you’re happy or you’re not so happy about things. It is so important to us that we provide you with a range of different ways to have your say and when you have something to say, we listen.
- Make sure you tell your social worker, independent reviewing officer (IRO) or someone else you trust, like a teacher, if there’s anything you’re feeling unhappy or unsure about.
- Your Independent Reviewing Officer is there to make sure everything that should be done for you is happening. Tell him/her if you have any concerns or worries.
- When you are 16 years old, you’ll also have a personal advisor as well as your social worker. Tell him/her about your concerns or feel free to ask them any questions you want answered.
- Your carer (foster carer or residential carer) will listen to you. They will try to answer all the questions you have, but if there’s anything they can’t answer, they’ll tell your social worker, so that he/she can talk to you.
My Review My Views
You can share your individual views, wishes and feelings before each of your review meetings.
Your ‘My Review My Views’ form provides you with the opportunity to share your thoughts, wishes and feelings with your social worker and independent reviewing officer (IRO) before each of your review meetings. The form asks you questions that will help you to share how you are feeling, for example, how you are getting on at school, what types of activities you take part in to keep you fit and healthy and how you feel about the different people in your life such as your carer or social worker.
And don’t forget to put on your form any questions you have too.
Children aged 4 – 7
Before your review you will be sent a form called ‘My Review…My Views’. Your form will help you to share how you are feeling. Your carer will help you to write down how you feel or you can draw us a picture.

Advocates
National Youth Advocacy Service (sometimes shorten to NYAS) offers an advocacy service for you. This means an adult will support you to make sure that your rights are respected and your views and wishes are heard at all times. Find out more about advocacy here and also see the leaflets in the Advocacy box on the left hand side of this page.
Reach Out! and Space2talk groups
Get involved and join other care-experienced young people at the Reach Out! or Space2talk groups. Young people help to shape the future of care. It’s a great way to make friends, put forward your views and ideas on how to improve things and have lots of fun along the way. The Care Council page tells you lots more about the groups and how you too can get involved.
Complaints or compliments
Let us know if you’re really happy, or if you want to complain about something. The Let Us Know page of this website will help you with what to do.
You can email us at complaints@sloughchildrenfirst.co.uk or speak to the (very friendly) Complaints Manager on 01753 875825.
