New home hampers for Slough care leavers

June 21, 2021

Staff at Slough Children First have been putting together special hampers to give to care leavers as they prepare to enter their own home for the first time.

Each of the hampers contains tea, coffee, cleaning products and various other things that will help them on their way as they begin a new chapter in their life. It also helps provide reassurance that, even though they have left care, Slough Children First will continue to support them.

The idea for the hampers came directly from the young people during one of their Space2Talk sessions when they suggested it would be nice if they were given a little parcel to help them on their way as this is what a parent would give to their child.

“Starting out in a new home can be a daunting experience for anyone but for care leavers with no family to support them it can be even harder, said Jeanette Duncan, Service Coordinator within the Children Looked After and Support Service at Slough Children First. “These hampers are just our small way of welcoming them to their new home by providing a few of the essentials they will need.”
