For independent, confidential advice and support to all victims of crime committed by young people.
Victims of crime
This information below explains what will happen now that you have reported a crime to the police. The police will pass information about you to the victim liaison worker so that the Youth Justice Service (YJS) Team can offer help, support and information.
The YJS has a responsibility to ensure that all victims of current youth crime have an opportunity to discuss how their lives have been affected. This is done by providing independent, confidential advice and support to all victims of crime committed by young people.
Reparation
We provide support to victims of youth crime by offering a variety of opportunities that you can be involved in. For example, with your consent, we can make your views known to the Courts and to the young people responsible for the offence, offering you the chance to express how the crime has affected you. In addition there might be a possibility of direct or indirect reparation.
Reparation is an agreement between the offender and the victim and/or the community to amend the harm caused. Slough YJS can keep you informed about the young offender’s case or refer you to supporting agencies such as Victim Support.
Youth Justice System
A key aim of the Youth Justice System is to encourage young people to understand the effects of their actions and to make amends to those harmed by their crimes in some meaningful way. As you are the person most affected by this crime, we would like to offer you the opportunity to be involved in this process.
The Court may issue an Order to the young person to carry out some type of work to make up for the offence. We would welcome your views on what this work could be.
Slough YJS also facilitate Restorative Justice conferences for people who wish to meet and receive answers from the offender, or wish to tell the offender how they have been affected. The Restorative Justice conference is a confidential and voluntary process for all parties involved.
We would like you to give some thoughts to this process and if you wish to take part contact the victim liaison at the telephone and address provided.
We are happy to answer any questions you may have.
Youth Justice Plan
The Youth Justice Service (YJS) is part of SCF, and our values underpin how we work together in the company.
Our priorities in YJS align and complement our wider Children’s Service improvement plan and ensure that we see ‘Child first, offender second.’
We want a local justice system which helps children to be the very best version of themselves, working with them and seeing them as part of the solution.
We will create an individual approach for every child meaning we can respond to their diversity and work holistically through a whole system approach with the wider family
