Breakaway

What is Breakaway?

Breakaway is a six-bedroom short break home, providing respite care for children aged 6-18 who have complex needs, a learning and/or physical disability.

The children who access Breakaway may require personal care, medication, additional health care, behavioural support and support with learning and achievements and this type of respite provides them with a safe and stimulating environment to help them achieve their full potential, including through developing independency skills and enhancing social and communication skills.

How does Breakaway meet the needs of children?

The respite care home is diverse, inclusive and responsive, with staff demonstrating that they cater to the individual needs and aspirations of children and their families.

Each child is valued, listened to and respected, with their communication preferences taken on board.

In December 2021, the menu for the food (cooked onsite) was changed to reflect the cultural needs of the children with input from them too.

Special dietary needs are also taken on board in the planning phase of cooking too and as well as the flavours being reflected in the dishes, the quality is too. Breakaway were given a Food Hygiene Rating of 5 stars from Slough Borough Council before the refurbishment.

Is Breakaway just for children?

No not at all. Breakaway also helps support families and helps them to remain as a family unit.

When did the short break home open?

Breakaway first opened its doors over 30 years ago!

The home undertook refurbishment works between 2021 and early 2022, and a grand opening ribbon celebration took place on 25 April 2022, to welcome guests to the newly refurbished home.

Where is Breakaway located?
