Slough Children First launches new local offer for care leavers

October 28, 2024

Slough Children First is pleased to announce the launch of Slough’s new local offer for care leavers during National Care Leavers Week.

The local offer explains the services and support on offer for care leavers from Slough Children First, with Slough Borough Council and partner agencies that have a duty to safeguard and support the welfare young people.

The local offer in Slough is available to our care leavers who are 16-25.

Sue Butcher, Director of Children’s Services and Chief Executive of Slough Children First said: We are delighted to be launching our new local offer, especially during National Care Leavers Week, when this year’s theme is ‘All of Us, We are One.’

The local offer has been produced with our young people and partner agencies, taking into account their views and issues. We want our young people to know that they have a voice and everyone who has a corporate parenting duty will listen to their views and work to support them.

Councillor Puja Bedi, cabinet member responsible for education and children’s services, said: “As part of our vision, for every child to be Happy, Safe & Loved, Thriving, it is important that we make sure our young people feel safe and supported while they are in care, when they are preparing to leave and once they leave.

We understand that there are challenges when transitioning from care to independence and want to make sure our young people know we will support them emotionally, practically and financially. When a young person leaves care, our corporate parenting duties do not end there and we have a duty to ensure that they thrive and live a fulfilling life, in the same way that any parent would do for their child.
