In Slough, our youth Care Council gives care-experienced children and young people an opportunity to meet other young people with similar backgrounds and experiences.

We are aiming to establish a group of young people who have first-hand experience of being in care. Our meetings will provide a social space where you can connect with other young people facing similar situations. Whether you’ve been in foster care, residential care, kinship care, or other care arrangements, this council is for you.

We aim to provide children and young people the opportunity to:
- Have a say on the issues that matter to you and be heard;
- Share ideas on how things could be improved and suggest new ideas;
- Influence real changes to the services and support you receive;
- Meet the professionals who can make a change;
- Make new friends and have fun!
By getting involved, you also have the opportunity to meet with senior managers from Slough Children First and will also represent the issues, views and comments of Slough’s care-experienced children and young people at corporate board meetings.

Our Care Council is proud to host two empowering forums:
- Care Leaver’s Forum: A platform for individuals who have transitioned out of care, providing a space to share experiences, access resources, and advocate for positive change.
- Care Experienced Groups: Tailored to nurture the voices of young people with care experience, divided into:
- Up to 11s: A friendly and supportive environment for our younger members to play, learn, and grow together.
- 12 to 16s: A dynamic group designed for teenagers to connect, discuss, and develop skills for the future.
Join our community where every voice is heard and valued. Together, we’re building a brighter tomorrow.

EASTER/SUMMER WORKSHOP
Easter/Summer Programme 2025
Over Easter and across Summer 2025, our Participation Team delivered a range of creative, fun and skill-building opportunities for the children and young people we support. During the Easter programme, young people took part in Frame by Frame: an Animation Workshop, creating their own animations using digital devices and bringing their ideas to life. We also ran Chef It Up!, where young people planned and cooked their own dishes, building confidence in the kitchen and learning practical life skills in a relaxed, supportive environment. We finished the programme with an active and creative day at Salt Hill Activity Park, delivered in collaboration with the Community Detached Youthwork Team—from trampolining and bowling to arts and crafts activities such as sensory bottle making and bag printing. Thank you to everyone who came along and made it such a positive few days.
Over the Summer programme, young people took part in a two-day Money Ready workshop, developing skills around budgeting, finances and everyday money management, with participants achieving a Level 2 accreditation as part of the programme. We also delivered a Big Take-Up Day, giving young people the opportunity to meet with senior leaders, tour key services, take part in health and wellbeing activities, ask questions, and better understand the support available to them. In response to young people’s feedback and high demand, we delivered a two-day Art Resin Table-Making Workshop (with an additional day added), where young people designed and created new tables for youth spaces—ensuring their voices directly shaped the environments they use. The programme concluded with a Salt Hill Fun Day, bringing young people together for a relaxed, enjoyable day focused on connection, confidence and community. CLICK FOR PHOTOS.

AUTUMN PROGRAMME
Autumn Programme 2025
The Autumn Programme 2025 provided opportunities for young people to influence decisions, strengthen partnerships, and build confidence through real-world experiences.
Young Ambassadors attended a meet-and-greet session with Artswork, where they shared feedback on previous projects, including the Art Resin table-making workshop. Their views helped shape future creative opportunities.
Young people also met with The Berkeley Group, who are leading the regeneration of Slough High Street. They learned about the plans for the area and took part in creative activities, including designing potential logos for the town centre. This responded directly to young people’s interest in what is happening locally.
The programme also included the first Young Ambassadors team-building day. Young people worked through shared activities and took part in an escape room challenge, strengthening teamwork, communication, and leadership skills.
In November, during National Care Leavers’ Month, young people took part in a Booth Bus music session, offering a creative space to express themselves and connect with others in a relaxed environment.CLICK FOR PHOTOS.
