On 8 October, Slough Children’s First’s fostering agency, Foster with Slough, proudly relaunched Resilience Foster Care at Observatory House, a significant step in strengthening support for children and young people across the borough.
Resilience Foster Care focuses on providing homes for children with complex needs or those who have experienced significant trauma. The approach emphasises Therapeutic Led Care (fostering with TLC), helping foster carers provide nurturing, consistent, and trauma-informed care that supports healing and long-term wellbeing.
The event brought together dignitaries, councillors, staff, current foster carers, and members of the community interested in becoming carers. Guests heard inspiring stories of resilience and the positive impact foster carers can make in helping children rebuild trust and stability.
Karen, one of our foster carers for over 20 years, spoke movingly about her journey, the challenges, the rewards, and the life-changing difference a stable, loving home can make for children.
George Mathew, Fostering Service Manager, outlined how the Resilience Foster Care programme equips carers with specialist training, therapeutic support, and regular supervision, ensuring they feel confident, valued, and supported in their role.
A video presentation from Laura Taylor, Therapeutic Parenting Coach and Practice Educator, highlighted how trauma-informed approaches and understanding can transform outcomes for children. Laura will also lead specialist Therapeutic Led Care training for new resilience foster carers.
Sue Butcher, Executive Director of Children’s Services and Chief Executive of Slough Children’s First, said: “Resilience Foster Care is about giving our children the best possible support, no matter the challenges they’ve faced. Every child in Slough deserves a safe, understanding, and nurturing home. This initiative ensures that our carers have the right training and therapeutic guidance to help children thrive. It’s about resilience for our carers and, most importantly, for our children, helping to make sure every child is Happy, Safe & Loved, Thriving.”
The relaunch marks a renewed commitment to building a community of skilled, confident, and supported foster carers who can meet the diverse needs of Slough’s children.
