Smashing it Awards Nomination Form 2026

This year, Slough Children First will be holding its annual celebration event, for our care-experienced children and young people, on Wednesday 29 July.

This very special event will bring together all of our children and young people looked after, care leavers, their carers and key professionals that care and support them. The celebrations will include an afternoon of fun activities and we will also be holding an awards presentation to recognise and celebrate the great things that our children and young people have achieved.

This is your opportunity to nominate a child or young person who has achieved something in this past year in one or more of the categories listed below. 

NOMINATION CLOSING DATE: Friday 25 July 2026.

Who can be nominated? 

Slough’s children and young people looked after (all ages) and care leavers aged 18 to 25.

You can nominate a child or young person for more than one award category. Please complete a separate form for each nomination.

Award Categories

Resilience Award

To recognise a child or a young person who has shown incredible resilience and/or personal growth, while handling life’s ups, downs and challenges..

Personal Achievement

To recognise a child or a young person who has made great progress personally or academically. This could be in nursery, a school or college setting, work environment, language development, taking a big leap of faith to do something, and more.

Talent and Creativity Award

To recognise a child or a young person for expressing themselves creatively, including in sport, music, art, gaming, writing, dance, performance, or other ways. Whether they have achieved a personal goal or have inspired others.

Kindness and Community Award

To recognise a child or a young person for showing kindness, supporting others, building positive relationships, and making a meaningful difference at home, in school, or within their community.

Could it be that they have helped their foster sibling with something, looked after someone at a care council meeting or participation workshop, they’ve volunteered in their community, at school, took part in a fundraiser…. Let us know.

Young Influencer Award

To recognise a child or a young person for speaking up, taking action, leading by example or wanting to make a positive difference through their participation, determination, advocacy, or role modelling. Their action could have been carried out quietly or loudly.

Please do not include confidential information relating to the child or young person (for example, their reason for being looked-after) in the nomination form. Details from your nomination may be read out at the event.

Smashing it Awards – Celebration Day 2026

This form should be used to nominate a child or young person for our ‘Smashing it Awards’. The Smashing it Awards are about shining a light, lifting up and celebrating our amazing children and young people who are cared for or care experienced. There’s lots of ways to be smashing it in life such as: • Showing resilience, personal growth, and handling life’s ups and downs with strength, grace & hope. • Making admirable progress in areas of life like learning, developing new skills, creativity or personal development. • Being kind person, supporting others, building positive relationships, or making a difference in friendships, communities or home. • Smashing it through talents, passions, art, music, gaming, sports, writing, or any skill where they express themselves and inspire others. • Unstoppable spirit, perseverance, courage, and showing determination when faced with challenges—quietly or loudly. • Speaking up, making a difference and changing things through their grit, determination or role-modelling.
